Gears 5: Pahanu

Pahanu was probably my favorite map to work on. It was a huge challenge but also a fresh new take on Gears. We usually stay away from foliage wherever possible because bringing heavy foliage use to 60 FPS in UE4 is always a challenge. So naturally, when it was decided that we would do a jungle setting, the stakes were high.

I was mainly responsible for creating the main trees for this map and for the jungle/creature spawn point. I worked alongside Environment Artists Matt Macer, Matthias Riegler and Jacob Mandt.

I am super proud of everyone involved in the creation of this map and want to give a special shout out to Jon Langford, who made many of the natural elements in it possible. Cheers bud!

The finished map was brought to life by not only Environment Art, but also the rest of the creative team here at Splash Damage including VFX, Lighting, Tech Art and Concept Art. A big thank you goes out to everyone involved.
